71 Year Old Found Dead in Navasota House Fire

Updated: Wed 7:13 PM, Mar 06, 2013

Investigators in Navasota are looking into what started a house fire that left a 71-year-old man dead early Tuesday morning.

The Navasota Fire Department responded to the house fire on the 1400 block of Chinski St at 4:30 am on Wednesday morning. The house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

"Big, big, big old flames, just big old flames," said Ruth Moore, a neighbor.

Once the fire was put out, 71-year-old Edgar Curley Jr. was found dead. Police say he was the homeowner and the only resident of the house.

"It's just devastating," said Earnestine Washington, another neighbor.

Police say Curley had space heaters throughout the house, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
