The Junior League of Bryan/College Station had more than one reason to celebrate Thursday afternoon.
For starters, the league celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Since its conception, membership has more than doubled in size, increasing from 100 charter members its initial year, to currently more than 350 members.
The highlight of the celebration included a speech from a former first lady.
"In 25 years, you've logged over 250,000 volunteer hours and donated over $1,000,000 to the local community," said Barbara Bush. "This is truly inspiring."
Bush went on to say, "Working together side by side, you're changing Bryan/College Station, and the lives of the good people who live here."
League members made Mrs. Bush an honorary member, and presented her with a diamond and pearl brooch, compliments of David Gardners.
The Junior League in commemoration of their milestone celebration, created the Future Impact Gift to be awarded to a non-profit organization. The Brazos Valley Food Bank was the chosen recipient.
Proceeds from Thursday's event will go to the food bank.
