A fight inside a Texas A&M parking garage lands an Aggie football player in jail.

Police say Killeen freshman Rhontae Scales, 19, was with a group of men heard shouting at another man and his female companion early Sunday morning. An officer at the scene says the altercation escalated into an attack during which Scales allegedly punched the victim while he was on the ground.

The Aggie offensive lineman is charged with assault causing bodily injury. He was released from jail after posting a $4,000 bond.

Coach Mike Sherman commented on the matter at his Monday news conference. "College kids on a night after a ballgame and not making the best decisions sometimes. So I'm still investigating that and getting all my facts together, but it'll be something I take care of," he said.

Most of you are so quick to judge, but who are you? You should probably get all your facts straight before making fools of yourselves. Game suspensions? Tell me the last time you saw Scales in the game? Right. He's a redshirt freshman. Booked in and out within a minute? Right again. Because they put it in the computer at the same time because he never left holding. He had to have a responsible adult cosigner for his bond, and thanks to NCAA rules, they were not related to A&M. You should really take the time to process what you're saying before you say it. Furthermore, if we didn't play based on emotion, Mikel, we wouldn't have the little thing we like to call heart. And while our talent may not be up to par, we have always and will always have heart. Sherman will find the facts and take care of this how he deems necessary. Stop with all the biased finger-pointing. It's just another day in the life of a HUMAN. No one is perfect.

When I was a kid, I would get into fights with my brothers just to pass the time. Now, I would be arrested for assault family violence.

Police characterized this as an attack during which Scales, 6'5" 328 pounds struck the victim while he was on the ground causing bodily injury. Football aside, that is not a "fight." Scales will go through the Courts and probably get a plea bargain and take deferred adjudication probation on a simple assault charge if he has a clean record. Just like anyone else.
