The biggest tree in Brazos County was the featured attraction at Friday's Arbor Day celebration at College Station's Veteran's Park and Athletic Complex. The Richard Carter Oak stands more than 70 feet tall with a 16-foot circumference. The mighty oak is the seventh largest tree in Texas and was found by College Station Parks Director Steve Beachy.
Other Arbor Day attractions included the planting of 43 trees that had been purchased by private residents in memory of someone special in their lives. Also the official opening of the "American Mile," a trail with inscribed bands every 20 feet detailing American historical events.
