A Blinn College professor is ready to make a run at the Texas House.

Blanche Brick announced Tuesday she's starting a petition drive to get her name on the ballot of the Republican primary for the District 14 seat. Brick is Social Sciences Division Chair at Blinn with a doctorate from Texas A&M. Her campaign platform includes education, community protection and development and transportation.

Brick is the third candidate who'll challenge incumbent Fred Brown who is running for reelection. The other two are former district court judge Rick Davis and retired Brazos County Tax Accessor-Collector Buddy Winn.

I agree with "Voter" below. It sounds as if this is a candidate that is trying to walk the fence and appease everyone instead of voicing her opinions on controversial issues. I want to know where she stands on the death penalty, global warming, abortion, concealed handgun licenses on college campuses, red light cameras, cash for clunkers, the stimulus package and tons of other controversial issues. So she is in favor of education? Just who isn't? Transportation? I like to drive my car to work too! If we wanted another appeaser, we would keep Fred Brown. Blanche, if you want a shot at my vote, you had better start arguing for your beliefs, whatever they might be.

Blanche Brick is knowledgeable on the proper functions of government and the needs of the people that it serves. She has presented herself as Teddy Roosevelt Republican; one who believes in conservative use of resources and fiscal responsibility in spending habits. She believes that education and transportation are essential for the economic future of our state. This is a refreshing change from the free spending accomplish nothing of substance type office holders that we have had in recent years. I am happy to support her candidacy for Representative to the Texas Legislature from our district.

"Her campaign platform includes education, community protection and development and transportation." And I'm sure she's for motherhood and apple pie as well; how about some SPECIFICS??? Does education mean more pay for teachers or more affirmative action at the expense of quality? Does community protection mean more cops or more gun control? Does development and transportation mean improving our public roads or reauthorizing the TTC? Those details are kinda important...
