The 13 women who trained in secret in the early 1960s to become astronauts never made it into space.

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh officials are hoping that they can help soothe some of their anger over that with a little recognition.

The 13 female pilots will be awarded honorary doctorates at graduation Saturday.

Among them is Jerri Truhill, who grew up in Amarillo and always had a burning desire to be among the stars. Truhill now lives in Richardson. She says she and her friends believe American traditions of women as teachers and stay-at-home mothers caught up to female pilots.
