Eighty members of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets have been commissioned as officers in the US military.

Saturday afternoon, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) addressed the cadets at their commissioning ceremony. She congratulated them on their achievements.

"You are the finest that we have in America and I'm so proud to be a United States Senator representing the state of Texas, Texas A&M, and America, because you will be the ones that uphold the honor of our generation," Hutchison said.

Rear Admiral Robert Smith III, U.S. Navy Reserve (Ret.), also addressed the cadets at Saturday's ceremony.

Additionally, 62 cadets are candidates for the Corps of Cadets' Certificate in Leadership Study and Development, with James D. Pitcock of Houston, a 1949 Texas A&M graduate, presenting the certificates.

Activities concluded with the Corps of Cadets' annual Final Review at 3:30 p.m. at Kyle Field.
