AUSTIN -- House and Senate negotiators are close to another crucial compromise on a transportation bill that taps the brakes on private investment in highway construction. That's what two key lawmakers said Wednesday.
Senator John Carona says he believes the plan has the support of almost all of the House and Senate members of a conference committee working out differences between each chambers' version of the legislation.
Representative Lois Kolkhorst was optimistic that an agreement would be reached soon but said it was premature to say the discussion was over.
Carona says he has enough support in the full Senate to send the bill to Governor Rick Perry, and he has been assured the governor will accept it.
