A truly unique prison program at the Hamilton Unit in Bryan received top honors from the state.
The Prison Entrepreneurship Program or PEP was recognized with the 2007 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award.
The program offers entrepreneurial training and skills to inmates to help prepare them to re-enter society.
During the four month long program, inmates prepare for their release by developing business plans and delivering presentations in front of a panel.
PEP was awarded the "Most Innovative Program" Thursday in Austin.
