Trial Attorney Tests Chances in Challenging Cornyn

A San Antonio trial lawyer is considering a challenge to Republican United States Senator John Cornyn in 2008. Democrat Mikal Watts filed paperwork Friday to establish an exploratory committee.

Watts is considered to have the money to run what would be an
expensive statewide Senate race. Such races are considered to cost
more than $10 million for a candidate that makes it to the general election.

Watts is originally from Corpus Christi, but has a law office in
San Antonio.

Cornyn is seeking his second six-year term in the Senate. He
says the first step is the party primaries. Texas' 2008 primary is
in March.
