Only the dogs were at a Centerville home Wednesday, in the 2000 block of 75 south. The people who live there, were in jail.
Their undoing began Monday, 70 miles away, in the Falls County town of Lott. That's when Donald Cole and Michael Winstead were arrested. Stopped, police said, driving away from the home they'd just burglarized.
Lott Police Chief Michael Hamilton said stolen weapons, safes, computers and jewelry boxes were recovered from the pair's vehicle.
"And many, many tools that we believe was used in the offense," said Hamilton.
After they were arrested, deputies say one of the men started talking.
"Guilty, guilty conscience, he wanted to clear his conscience," said Sheriff Jerry Wakefield.
That's how the Leon County Sheriff's Office became involved. Deputies said the man confessed to 11 home burglaries and told officers the men were responsible for seven in Leon County, three in Robertson County and one in Navarro County. Investigators think the men may also be connected to others in Limestone County.
"Very rural areas where these burglar took place," said Wakefield.
Police said the crook turned informant also led them to the Centerville home Cole and his girlfriend Heather Kannard shared. She was picked up on a burglary warrant.
Deputies said the gang stock piled their stolen bounty inside her home. Through a search warrant, officers recovered multiple stolen guns, ammo, and drugs.
"A lot of these weapons that they received out of these burglaries are traded for narcotics," said Wakefield.
Deputies hope the arrests make rural roads in the Brazos Valley, a little safer.
Heather Kannard is in the Leon County jail charged with burglary of a habitation in Limestone County.
Winstead and Cole have similar charges out of Falls County and Leon County Sheriff's Deputies say more are coming from their county and likely from Robertson County.
Deputies said one of the men raised suspicion months ago when troopers noticed he carried a police scanner and wasn't a volunteer firefighter.

Robbed, was glad to hear some of your stolen items were returned to you. I hope lots more can be returned to their owners. It's possible some of the stolen property may never be recovered. Cole, Winstead and Kannard SHOULD spill their guts to law enforcement and come clean. They are in a pickle now !!!!!!
I know it was these people because the Sheriffs dept called me and told me some of my things had been recovered.
