Steve Swanson has added to the Aggie tradition of space travel.
The NASA mission specialist has a doctoral degree in computer science from Texas A&M, meaning he'll be the second Aggie in space in less than a year.
The shuttle Atlantis lifted off Friday evening on an 11-day mission that will serve to deliver a number of parts to the International Space Station.
According to an interview with NASA, Swanson will operate the shuttle's arm and even do a spacewalk, just like fellow Aggie Mike Fossum did last July on the shuttle Discovery.
William Pailes was the first Aggie in space aboard Atlantis in 1985.
