Bryan's city council heard the final update on the Texas Reds Steak and Grape Festival before Saturday's big event.
According to city officials, the numbers of volunteers (400), vendors (66), cook-off teams (26) and wineries (11) involved have equaled or exceeded expectations. They also believe the crowds might be bigger than first thought.
"We expected somewhere around 5,000 people to show up. We've kind of upped that to around 8,000. We want to make sure if you come for a steak, you have one available for you, that we have enough wine for those that are coming for the wine tasting."
Admission to the event is free, and tickets are on sale for wine tasting and steak plates. The festivities start at 10 a.m. Saturday, with entertainment lasting through the evening in Historic Downtown Bryan.
