An $11 million project at Navasota High School is two months from completion. When the school year begins, the district will have a new football field that is projected to be one of the best 3A fields in the state.
The project was made possible by a $25 million bond issued passed in 2005.
"The architects who designed the football stadium themselves said this would be one of the nicest 3A facilities in the state," Tom Hulon with the Navasota Independent School District said.
Navasota High is also getting a new competition gym, weight room, sports complex, band hall and choir room. Officials say the school had outgrown the existing facilities.
"They didn't really fit and suit the needs of the kids we were wanting to serve here," Hulon said. "We're planning on growing and it's part of the natural process. People are getting more excited as it goes along and we see different things go up on it."
The project is expected to be completed by August.
