A tragic shooting forced the temporary closure of a popular College Station gun shop and shooting range.
Around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, a 76-year-old man entered Champions Firearms on Texas Avenue. Workers at the shooting range say the man, who was confined to a wheelchair, rented a 45-caliber pistol before entering the shooting bay, where turned the gun on himself.
He was transported to the College Station Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Champion Firearms posted signs on their doors informing customers the shop and range would be closed for the rest of Wednesday. The owner said they will reopen for business on Thursday.
