A former Texas A&M professor is President Bush's nominee to lead the U.S. Census Bureau.

Steve Murdock left Texas A&M for the University of Texas at San Antonio in early 2004.

He is currently a demographics professor at UTSA and director of the Texas State Data Center.

Murdock must still be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Governor Rick Perry named him the Texas State Demographer in 2001.
