A three-vehicle wreck two miles south of Hearne has left a southeast Texas man dead and two others injured.
The accident happened two miles south of Hearne on Highway 6 around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities say a van was travelling northbound when it inexplicably moved into the southbound lanes.
The first collision was with a Mustang headed south. Following that impact, a tractor-trailer also going south plowed through the van. The 18-wheeler overturned as a result.
The van's driver, a 49-year-old male from Cleveland, Texas was killed instantly according to DPS officials on the scene. His identity was not immediately released because his next of kin had not been notified.
The Mustang's driver, Dwayne Doyle of Navasota, was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, and was last listed in critical condition according to DPS.
The semi's driver, Kyle Griesbach of Caldwell, was also taken to St. Joseph, but by ambulance. His condition was last listed as fair.
The semi was carrying a load of diesel fuel at the time, and approximately 200 gallons of it spilled. Authorities on the scene were able to contain the spill, and the rest of the load was off-loaded to a new tanker. An environmental team was on their way to the scene Wednesday night in order to assess any damage.
DPS officials say the tractor-trailer belongs to GPS Petroleum.
In addition to troopers, first responders with the Robertson County Sheriff's Office and Hearne were also on scene.
