Scattered areas of rain & a few thunderstorms are moving across the Brazos Valley this afternoon. Later today & into the evening hours, while the coverage is expected to remain low (20%) -- should a thunderstorm develop, it could become severe. With city approval now in hand, Navasota is set to expand its city limits.
After the unanimous approval of an ordinance's second reading at Monday night's council meeting, the city is moving forward on annexing around 343 acres of land along Highways 6 and 90.
Businesses make up the vast majority of the property being annexed.
The next step for city officials is to contact the Justice Department to make sure all pre-clearances are taken care of.
They say this annexation is to get ahead of future growth of the city.
