Brazos County Commissioners met during a special workshop meeting Monday to discuss the expansion of the Brazos County Jail.
Commissioners say a bond issue will be needed to build the 155,000 square foot facility. The projected cost of the expansion is $55 million.
The bond issue is expected to be on the ballot in November.
"We've got to be able to comply with the law, federal and state, on how we house prisoners," Brazos County Judge Randy Sims said. "This is the way we're going to have to go about it."
The facility is expected to be big enough to house inmates for the next 25 years.
