Despite what some may have read on the internet, no new traffic laws will be taking effect this month.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is issuing that alert to the public following the circulation of a false email.
In that email, readers are told they must use a hands-free device to talk on the cell phones and driving three miles over the speed limit will result in a ticket.
An official with DPS says the email is a hoax and notification about any changes for the public would have the department's official seal and come through the mail or media.
Anyone can find out about new laws and their effective dates by accessing DPS's official website at www.txdps.state.tx.us
