HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A man convicted of being the triggerman in a 1992 insurance-related murder for hire faces execution tonight in Huntsville.
Rolando Ruiz was condemned over the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Theresa Rodriguez of San Antonio.
Investigators say the killing was arranged so Michael Rodriguez could collect at least a quarter of a million dollars in life insurance coverage on his wife.
Ruiz would be the 19th condemned killer in Texas to be put to death this year.
Michael Rodriguez was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the killing of his wife.
He was one of seven inmates to break out of a South Texas prison in 2000 and killing Irving policeman Aubrey Hawkins during a robbery.
Michael Rodriguez is now on death row.
