Brazos County Commissioners have accepted the resignation of a long-time county official.
After more than 30 years as the county's tax assessor-collector, Buddy Winn will step down on July 31.
Commissioners appointed Kristeen Roe Tuesday to fill the position until the next election. Roe currently serves as the tax office's chief deputy.
Winn says it felt like the right time to resign. He plans on spending more time with his wife and may further his political career.
"I always wanted to retire and run for the seats in the legislature," Winn said. "I've got six months to look at it. I haven't called Steve (Ogden) or Fred (Brown) and told them, but I'll do that if ever I decide to run."
The search for a person to take over Roe's current duties will begin in the near future.
