SAN DIEGO (AP) - An investigating officer has recommended dismissing murder charges against a Marine accused in the slayings of three Iraqi men.
According to a report, the government had not produced enough evidence to show that Lance Corporal Justin L. Sharratt had executed the three men.
The squad action killed 24 civilians in Haditha two years ago, shortly after a roadside bomb killed Lance Corporal Miguel Terrazas, of El Paso, Texas.
The recommendation is non-binding. A final decision about whether Sharratt should stand trial will be made by the commanding general overseeing the case.
