**Wednesday Morning Update**
Our Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled area wide and replaced with a Winter Weather Advisory (set to expire at 6am) for the possibility of slick roads after yesterday's snowfall. As of 4am, temperature in Bryan/College Station has been holding steady at 35°, so snow overnight has been slowly melting. By that same concept, surface streets are wet, but not very slick. However, as mentioned earlier, its the bridges, overpasses and elevated surfaces that could still have accumulations, especially in our northern counties where temps are below freezing this morning.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Tuesday Evening Update**
Occasional light snow will continue across the Brazos Valley through the evening, but the snow should end between midnight and 2:00 a.m. as the upper level trough moves across the region. Clouds will linger behind the trough through the night, but clearing skies Wednesday morning will allow the sun to melt any remaining snow.
Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches were common today, with the heaviest totals coming from Brazos, Madison, Leon and Houston Counties.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Tuesday Afternoon Update**
Accumulation totals look to be on track this afternoon. Across our North and Northeastern counties, reports of anywhere from 1.5" to 3" of snow have come into the News 3 Weather Center. Here in Bryan/College Station, around 1.5" inches of snow has accumulated on the grassy surfaces. With light snow expected into the evening hours, another inch or so is possible before we begin to really melt things off by tomorrow morning.
(3:28pm) 1"-1.5" of accumulation on grassy surfaces here in Bryan/College Station. 2.25" reported in Centerville. Snow is starting to ease up across the city as a "dry-slot" moves through. However, more snow continues to fall back across West Texas to Austin...so we expect another batch of snow to continue through this evening and into the early overnight hours.
(2:10pm) Over the past hour, reports of 1+" of snow accumulated in Madisonville, along with a few slick spots starting to form on the roads in Leon County. Again, and it cannot be stressed enough, Milam, Robertson and Leon Counties have seen the frozen precipitation longest, therefore slick roadways are more likely for those areas through the afternoon and heading into the evening hours.
(1:00pm) Snow mixing in with heavy sleet in Bryan/College Station.
(12:53) Sleet and snow mix reported in Carlos.
(12:49pm) Heavy snow reported in Edge.
(12:47pm) Some of that sleet is starting to collect on the cars here at the KBTX studio. That being said, there is a chance that bridges and overpasses may start to collect slick spots. Take caution driving this afternoon, especially on those elevated surfaces.
(12:41 p.m.) Snow reported in Caldwell and Normangee. Seeing heavy sleet in Bryan-College Station. Here in BCS...now that more sleet is falling than rain, we do expect the switch over to snow to take place pretty quickly this afternoon. Right now however, that rain snow line still remains from north of Caldwell to the Normangee to roughly Centerville.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Tuesday Morning Update**
(11:54am) 1+" of snow reported from Calvert, while reports of snow covering the ground in Hilltop Lakes, Centerville, Hearne, Cameron, and Normangee.
(10:31) KBTX crew confirms snow in Hearne. Live look on News 3 at noon. Rain/snow line now lying just south of Milam, Robertson and Leon county lines.
(10:13) Light snow/rain mix reported from Hilltop Lakes. Light to Moderate snow in Centerville. Killeen has reported 2" accumulation on the ground while reports from Waco are around 1".
(10:07am) Snow reported in Cameron and Calvert. Light snow/sleet mix in Hearne,
(9:25am) Light snow reported in Hearne, melting as it makes contact with the ground.
(9:11am) Rain/sleet/snow mix continuing mainly across our northern counties still at this time. Light rain/sleet moving across Lee, Burleson, Brazos, and Madison Counties. However, activity is beginning to pick up from the southwest moving northeast.
(8:38) Rain/sleet/wet snow mix starting across the northern sections of Milam, Robertson and Leon Counties. The switch to snow, however, not very far up the road this morning. Temple already reporting snow sticking to cars as of 8am. Slick roads also being reported at times in and around Waco.
(7:30am) Light to moderate sleet reported from Cameron, Hearne, Franklin and portions of Bryan/College Station. Temperatures are well above freezing, therefore most everything falling at this time is melting on contact.
Our upper level system responsible for the Winter Storm Warning being in place is currently in New Mexico this morning but already spreading snow in across West Texas, light sleet as close as Hamilton County and some light rain just North of the Brazos Valley.
Forecast and snow totals look on track as previous forecasts. We expect the most accumulation across our northern counties this afternoon as temperatures slowly fall to around freezing by 5pm for most. Here in Bryan/College Station around an inch of accumulation is possible by 5pm today, with another 1-2 inches overnight after falling below freezing this evening.
As for travel conditions, with any snow fall, surface streets should do pretty well at melting frozen precipitation. However, should activity fall heavy and quick, especially by your 5pm commute, slushy conditions are not out of the question. Slick spots also are a concern on bridges and overpasses. We will have to watch closely as temperatures fall below freezing after 5 to 6pm, with snow expected through about the 10 to midnight time frame before coming to an end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Monday Evening Update*
An upper level trough over New Mexico late Monday evening will move to the east-southeast across West Texas Tuesday morning and across South Central Texas Tuesday evening. As of late Monday evening, precipitation in the form of snow was already occurring over southern portions of the Panhandle and the South Plains. The leading edge of very light mixed precipitation was near Abilene and Brownwood, and that's a little ahead of schedule. If that trend continues, we could see some light rain by around 6:00 a.m.
Snow is expected to mix in with the rain during the mid to late morning hours, changing over to all snow in the afternoon. The snow is likely to continue through mid evening, then decreasing by midnight.
The snow will melt initially as it reaches the ground, but as the snow increases and temperatures fall in the afternoon, accumulations are likely. The forecast for accumulations as updated this evening: 2 to 4 inches over Brazos, Burleson, Grimes and Walker Counties; 3 to 6 inches over Milam, Robertson, Leon, Houston and Madison Counties; and 1 to 3 inches over Washington, Austin, Waller and Montgomery Counties.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Monday Afternoon Update*
A WINTER STORM WARNING is now in effect for all of the Brazos Valley, with the exception of Austin, Lee & Waller Counties, from 8am Tuesday through 6am Wednesday.
A Winter Storm Warning means that it is likely snow will accumulate across a majority of the Brazos Valley. Within the warning area, 2-4 inches of snow is possible, with the chance that a few areas could see slightly higher accumulations. We still expect our northern and northeastern counties to receive the most snow, while our southern counties most likely will receive slightly less.
Also, a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from 2pm Tuesday through 6am Wednesday for Austin and Waller Counties.

On a side note...these are the totals that our computer models are coming in line with. However, at times there may be areas where "snow bursts" or "snow banding" occurs and could add in a quick couple more inches. Thundersnow (which is just what it sounds like...thunder while it is snowing) is not out of the question either. Thundersnow usually occurs when heavy snow is falling.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Monday Morning Update**
The National Weather Service has extended the Winter Storm Watch to now include Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Madison, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker and Washington Counties. Milam, Robertson and Leon Counties also remain under the watch as issued Sunday afternoon.
A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for snow to fall and accumulate. Totals across the area could average between 2 to 4 inches from a Madisonville to Crockett line. Here in Bryan College Station and a line from Brenham to Conroe, 1 to 3 inches of accumulation is possible.
Let's talk travel conditions--
--Tuesday morning travel should run smoothly as we expect activity to begin mid-morning Tuesday as a cold rain. However, a switch to snow should be made by the afternoon hours as the upper-atmosphere begins to cool.
--Tuesday afternoon / evening could find its occasional slick spots, especially on overpasses and bridges. Sunday's near 80° temperatures will help in melting snow on surface streets, however as the snow continues to fall into the evening hours, slick spots are expected to form, especially on lesser traveled streets.
--Snow should begin to end from west to east overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. For your Wednesday morning commute, again bridges and overpasses will be the main concern as temperatures should drop just below freezing. Surface streets most likely will have a few slick spots as well.
--Wednesday afternoon partly cloudy skies should take over and highs are expected to jump into the upper 40s. That being said, your afternoon commute looks like smooth sailing as our snow will be quick to melt.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Sunday Evening Update**
An upper level disturbance moving into Southeast Texas Tuesday afternoon should be met with cold enough temperatures for us to see a mix of rain and snow.
Warm enough temperatures in the morning should keep any precipitation as rain, but around noon we should see the rain changing over to snow.
Leon, Milam and Robertson counties still under a Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday, meaning that 4 inches of snowfall is possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**Sunday Afternoon Update**
The Brazos Valley could see another winter weather event Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch for Leon, Milam and Robertson counties. A Winter Storm Watch means that there is a possibility of snow accumulations of 4 inches in some locations.
As of Sunday afternoon, only those three counties are included in the Winter Storm Watch, but most of the area will likely see at least a mix of rain and snow Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

I want to thank KBTX for the way they organized the listing of school closings. It was very easy for me to find the information I needed. Also, thank you to BISD for making a decision to postpone school early enough the day before so I could plan accordingly. Great job by all!
There is nothing sticking to the road. They are absolutely clear as if it has rained. There is no reason to close anything.
Loftin says A&M will NOT release since it is not freezing yet so all yall A&M hopefuls (including me) can stop hoping i guess.
