Calvert Fire Becomes Criminal Investigation

The Friday morning fire that inflicted serious damage on the Calvert City Hall was no accident. Fire investigators said it was intentionally set to cover up a burglary. But authorities still don't know what, if anything, was stolen.

The call came in around 1 a.m. from a passerby. The fire was quickly contained, but a significant portion of city hall suffered extensive heat and smoke damage.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) was summoned to the scene to provide a specially-trained dog that sniffs out accelerants. Investigators said it didn't take long to find signs of arson.

The case now goes to the State Fire Marshal.
