It turns out Lady Bird Johnson had a brief affiliation with Aggieland.
In the early days of KBTX, Johnson held a minority owner of the station. Peggy Gillam, the wife of the late Harry Gillam, who was former General Manager of KBTX, even recalls the former first lady making a trip to the Brazos Valley. Gillam said Lady Bird Johnson was indeed an impressive lady.
"She was a lovely lady who very dedicated to her husband an her country and her family and to the state of Texas," Gillam said.
Many Brazos Valley residents are making their way to the Bush Library to sign a condolence book. On display is a portrait on loan from the Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum Lady Bird Johnson in a field of wildflowers.
