NEW YORK - The Court Yard Hounds are a new group -- but they're hardly your typical baby act.

The duo is derived from one of music's best-selling bands - the Dixie Chicks - and their self-titled debut album is already among the spring's more anticipated releases.

Sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison make their stage debut Thursday at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin.

Robison lives in San Antonio. Maguire lives in Austin.

SXSW will mark the first time they will be center stage since the Dixie Chicks took off more than a decade ago, when it was Lubbock's Natalie Maines singing lead.

Many country stations quit playing the Chicks in 2003 after Maines told a London audience, about then-President George W. Bush:
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United
States is from Texas."

Almost overnight, Maines became a lightning rod in the debate
over the Iraq war.

Natalie Mains had every right to express her opinion, ON HER OWN TIME! When I go to a concert or anywhere that I am paying for the ticket, I go to be entertained, not listen to the performer's political views.

Everyone has the right to speak their mind. You dont have to listen. If they are on tv, the radio, in the paper, turn it off, put it down. Simple. Also, she said this a long time ago. Let it go. How many of us have said things when we were young and now maybe our viewpoint has changed. Does that mean we should be crucified for it forever? I dont like the Dixie Chicks because I dont like thier music, I dont hate them and I certainly dont wish them ill because of what one member did A VERY LONG TIME AGO!

Love that Maines exercises her right to freedom of speech. It is her RIGHT to say what she wants. I DON'T agree with what she says and that doesn't mean I all-of-a-sudden hate her music. I love the Dixie Chicks' music today just as I did before this comment was made. Get over it already!
