West Corporation company officials have notified all 260 employees at its Bryan call center they are closing down operations effective May 15, 2010. Employees learned of the closure Tuesday morning at a meeting attended by all workers.
David Pleiss at the West Corporation's corporate office in Omaha, Nebraska cites a decline in call volume, as the reason for the closure.
Pleiss says the company hasn't lost any clients, but that they have failed to secure new contracts and after thought and consideration West Corporation officials decided to close down operation instead of renew its lease which is up for renewal in October, but a decision to renew the lease was due by April.
The company has offered a severance package to its management staff and has encouraged other employees to apply for positions through the West At Home Program which allows people to work from home. Throughout Texas, the West Corporation operates 13 other call centers with some located in San Antonio, Beaumont and El Paso.
The West Corporation facility opened its doors in Bryan in 2006 and last year in June, the company laid off 160 of its full time employees.

Wow! I just got a job at West in BMT and you guys are making me nervous.
I worked for West (AMEX) in early 2008. I was away from work on disability - under a doctor's care and covered under FMLA. I went to the pharmacy one day and was told that my insurance coverage had been terminated two weeks earlier. After several calls to management at West, I was told that I had abandoned my job. When I told them I had not been cleared by my doctor to return to work, I didn't even get an apology. So, no job to return to, and all my doctor's bills for the two weeks I did not know I didn't have insurance were not covered. AND - when I filed for unemployment benefits, they tried to fight me. I feel badly for the people who are losing their jobs, but West deserves to close their doors. I have worked for several outsourcing companies, and have never seen one as poorly run as West was.
I THINK IS SAID THAT PEOPLE ARE HAPPY THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE LOST THERE JOB.....I am just going to be honest there were certainly some things at west that could have been changed but management did the best with what they were given....when have agents not coming to work it hurts the ones who do so if there is any blame that needs to be put it is the ones who got fired for real reasons and the ones that decided not to come to work when it was perfectly in there power to do so..so look at the whole picture not what you want to see....so all of you who got fired thanks for helping the ones that were doing the right thing...YOU WERE THE REASON WHY.....SLACKERS....
