CENTER, Texas -- An intensive manhunt continues for a second day Thursday for a man suspected of abducting, robbing and killing an 89-year-old East Texas woman.
The body of Daliah Sanders of Center was found in the trunk of a car about ten miles south of Center after a 15-mile police chase. She'd been shot in the back of the head. The man seen at the wheel managed to flee into nearby woods on foot. Tracking dogs, horses and helicopters are involved in the search.
Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson Junior says Sanders had been seen driving the car when it pulled into the drive-through lane of the Citizens National Bank in Center Wednesday. Investigators say she withdrew a large amount of money but mouthed the words "help me" to the drive-through teller, who called police.
Police chased the vehicle, but lost sight of it four about ten minutes before spotting it again and resuming the chase.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, five-feet-eight to six feet tall, last seen wearing a dark hoodie. Police suspect stole a red, four-door, 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck overnight with Texas tags, license number 2OR-VF4.
