MALAKOFF, Texas (AP) - A former Malakoff police officer has been charged with violating a prisoner's civil rights for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he had taken into custody. Malakoff is about 30 miles east of Corsicana.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says Horace Anthony Poullard turned himself in yesterday and was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
A Texas Rangers investigation led to the indictment accusing the 56-year-old of engaging in sexual contact with the victim on February eleventh while she was in custody.
Authorities say the victim was not arrested or charged with any crime on the date of the alleged incident. Jail records show she was not booked into jail.
Malakoff city administrator Glen Herriage says Poullard was moved from night shift to day shift when the allegations came to light in March. Poullard resigned from the department in July.
Special Agent Jeff Millslagle says the FBI is also investigating the incident.
