A member of President Bush's cabinet is on the receiving end of an honorary doctorate degree from Texas A&M.
Secretary of Defense and former A&M president Robert Gates and his wife Becky will receive honorary doctorates during commencement ceremonies on Friday.
Gates served as A&M president from 2002 to late 2006 when President Bush nominated him for defense secretary.
Only 73 honorary doctorates have been handed out since the university opened in 1876.
Gates and his wife join former National Park Service Director Robert Stanton and novelist Rolando Hinojosa-Smith as this year's honorees.
