Navasota ISD Superintendent Jennings Teel confirmed Friday morning he has asked high school principal Brent Rumbo to resign.
Teel said some "questioning circumstances that are negative" have been brought to his attention, prompting Rumbo to be placed on paid administrative leave until further notice.
Teel would not comment on the nature of the circumstances or how he found out about them.
He did confirm that Rumbo has been asked to resign, but has yet to turn in a letter of resignation.
Teel said he further investigate the allegations.
A search for a new principal will not start until Rumbo's position is terminated. Until then, Assistant Principal Cory Buckley will serve as the interim principal.
Teel said he has met with faculty and staff and told them of Rumbo's situation.
"It was shock, I guess you could say, that was the look on their faces," Teel said.
A Navasota ISD school board meeting is scheduled for Monday night. Teel said trustees will discuss Rumbo's situation in a closed door meeting, but no action is expected to be taken.
