Two people died when the car in which they were riding plunged off a highway bridge and landed upside down in a creek bed about 40 feet below the roadway, Dallas police said.

Dallas Police Lt. Miguel Sarmiento said speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash early Friday, which left a man and a woman dead.

Investigators were trying to determine Friday if the man, who was driving the car, had been racing with another vehicle.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.
