DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Texas woman who told authorities she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted has been arrested for making a false report, officials said.
Alexandra I. Zografos, 19, of Bedias, claimed she was abducted by a man in Orion, Ill., on June 20 and forced to drive to a rural area near Muscatine, where she was assaulted by the man and another man, neither of whom she knew.
Officials with the Muscatine County sheriff's office said a composite sketch of the possible kidnapper that was distributed should be disregarded.
An investigation by the sheriff's office and the FBI was closed Saturday after Zografos was arrested.
If convicted of the charge, Zografos could face up one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,500.
