Former A&M Student Killed in Iraq

An Aggie is the latest casualty of the Iraq war. Private First Class William Lawrence Edwards, 23, was serving his first tour of duty in Iraq, when he was killed Saturday during an attack in Arab Jabour.

Edwards was a member of B-Company in the Army's 3rd Infantry Division stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, according to the Department of Defense.

The 23-year-old grew up in Houston and graduated from Stratford High School in 2002, family members said. He later went to Texas A&M, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He left the university to join the Army, his mother said.

Edwards' parents, who now live in Somerville, say their son loved what he was doing, and they were extremely proud of him.

Funeral services are pending at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
