Mineral Wells Prison Uprising Put Down

MINERAL WELLS, Texas (AP) - The lockdown continues at a private prison near Mineral Wells today after an overnight disturbance involving hundreds of inmates refusing to leave the recreation yard.

Two employees of the Mineral Wells Pre-Parole Transfer Facility were treated on site for minor injuries during Monday night's disturbance. There were no reports of injuries to inmates.

Prison spokeswoman Rose Thompson says officials are trying to determine what prompted the inmates to refuse to leave the recreation yard.

She says officials from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice are helping those from the Corrections Corporation of America investigate.

Thompson said anyone found to have been an instigator will be transferred to other facilities and the findings of their investigation will be turned over to prosecutors for possible charges.

The all-male, minimum-security facility has 2,100 beds and houses inmates from the Texas prison system.
