Austin Library to Bear First Lady's Name

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - First lady Laura Bush is getting an Austin library named in her honor.

Construction is set to begin next year on the Laura Bush Community Library in a posh Austin neighborhood.

It will be the first library named solely for the former librarian and school teacher.

The first lady is a longtime book and reading advocate. She visited another library in the Austin neighborhood Tuesday, and signed a children's book that will be the first in the new library to be named for her.

Last week, Bush announced that she and daughter Jenna are collaborating on a still-untitled children's picture story to be published by HarperCollins in spring 2008.

The authors' net proceeds will be donated to two education programs: Teach for America and The New Teacher Project.
