The search for Texas A&M's president is beginning to wind down.
According to a member of the search committee, the group has narrowed their choices to a short list, though an exact number could not be specified. Background checks on those candidates and private interviews are already underway.
The group is still on target to name a final three candidates for the A&M presidency sometime next month.
Overall, the committee has seriously looked at about 125 candidates to succeed former President Robert Gates, who left A&M to become the Secretary of Defense in December.
Eddie Davis has been serving as the interim president of the university, though he has not indicated whether he is seeking to hold the position beyond his interim tenure. It is also unknown whether Davis is among those on the "short list."
