The expansion project for the Brazos County Detention Center received some good news: more bed space.
The project, which was expected to add an additional 672 beds, was able to create space for 12 more. Architects on the project presented the updated plan to the Commissioners Court Tuesday morning.
The new facility is expected to cost about $55 million, and will now be able to house an estimated 960 inmates.
"The design also features an ability to expand," said William Golson Jr. with Rosser International, Inc., "so we can extend the corridor systems that we've already developed and simply plug in new housing units."
Final design plans and the actual cost for the entire project are due at the end of the month.
