Clydell Morgan, 61, is charged with murder and is being held at the Robertson County jail.
Investigators say Morgan shot Willie Jean Williams, believed to be in her mid-50's, in the chest following an argument early Sunday morning.
It happened around 1 a.m. in the 500 block of Garrett Street in Calvert.
According to officials, Morgan and his girlfriend left a nightclub next door to Williams' home. Witnesses say the group began arguing in the yard and Morgan shot Williams in the chest.
Williams' boyfriend was able to detain Morgan until police arrived. Investigators say Morgan was holding a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
Williams was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, where she was pronounced dead.
Officials say Morgan has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1966.
