HOUSTON (AP) - Three people are dead in Harris County after their car was smashed by an Amtrak train. It happened late Wednesday night.
Witnesses told the Sheriff's Office that the car's driver drove around the guardrail and tried to dart past the oncoming train.
A Sheriff's Office spokesman says the train conductor blared his horn but couldn't stop in time.
Two males and a female died at the scene. Authorities say they appeared to be younger than 20.
Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero says there were no injuries on board the train. It was carrying 66 passengers on a route from New Orleans to Los Angeles.
