GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - Detectives say a fugitive arrested in Montana this week faked his death in Texas by leaving his vehicle stained with blood at a park.
Lieutenant David Dickerson of the Upshur County sheriff's office in East Texas says Kevin Othell Laferney tried to fake his death at a roadside park north of Big Sandy.
He says Laferney left blood on a baseball cap and throughout his pickup truck.
Laferney is a former youth pastor accused of sexually assaulting a child in Upshur County last summer.
Authorities say the 40-year-old faked his death in February and disappeared before he was scheduled to appear in court.
Laferney was arrested Tuesday at an apartment in Great Falls, Montana. He faces four counts each of aggravated sexual assault of a child and bail jumping.
