STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) - A teenager has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for beating his mother to death with an aluminum baseball bat.
Eighteen-year-old Cody Roberson pleaded guilty to murder this week.
He was 17 when 50-year-old Jana Roberson was killed in the family's Stephenville home.
Friends say Jana Roberson was deeply devoted to her troubled son.
He had been arrested before for assaulting his mother and placed on probation. Because he violated some of the terms, an arrest warrant was issued for him. But deputies did not receive the warrant until after Jana Roberson's death.
As part of the plea deal, Roberson agreed to testify against anyone else who might be charged.
Cody Roberson's attorney says his investigators uncovered information that proves his client was not the only one involved.
District Attorney John Terrill said he is not sure if more charges will be filed.
Roberson will be eligible for parole in 25 years after serving half of his sentence.
