A Brazos County justice of the peace is accused in a lawsuit of defrauding a family out of their own home.
In the suit filed Thursday, Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Ramiro "Big Q" Quintero is accused of using one late mortgage payment to kick Abel and Maria Maldonado out of their home and then buying the house for a fraction of its value.
The suit alleges in 1989, Quintero sold the home in the 600 block of Pine Street in Bryan to the Maldonados for $30,000.
In 2006, the Maldonado's were late making a mortgage payment. According to the lawsuit, Quintero capitalized on the late payment by initiating foreclosure. Once the Maldonado's were evicted, Quintero turned around and bought the property for $4,300.
When contacted on Thursday, Quintero said he had no knowledge of the lawsuit, and once he is served with it, his lawyers will review the suit.
