DALLAS (AP) - The parents of an Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians member killed by a homeowner say they understand why the man who shot their son reacted that way.

Police say Carter Albrecht was shot in the head around 4 a.m. Monday. He had been trying to kick down the back door of William Logg's home.

In an interview with Dallas television station KTVT, the musician's father, Ken Albrecht, says the neighbor had a home and a wife to protect. Ken Albrecht says "my heart goes out to them."

Police and friends of Albrecht have said they don't know why the 34-year-old had gone to the neighbor's home.

Logg lives next door to Albrecht's girlfriend, whom police said the musician was fighting with before the shooting.
