Mitchell James Byron is the Willis man found hanging in a Montgomery County jail shower by a bed sheet.
Byron's identity was reported by Houston Community Newspapers Saturday. His is the second case of a death of someone in Montgomery County custody in the last month.
In late August, John Kim of Conroe died shortly after he was arrested for possession of cocaine. Toxicology reports are still pending on Kim's death.
The latest death is under investigation by Texas Rangers and the sheriff's office. Byron was in custody for possession of a controlled substance. It was his sixth stay in the jail.
