Gabrielle Makes Landfall in Carolinas

HATTERAS, N.C. -- Tropical Storm Gabrielle has crashed on shore at North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The storm is carrying 50 mile an hour winds and plenty of rain as it pushes on shore -- but it's still not enough to scare off the hardiest of vacationers. At least one surfer says he plans to ride the tall waves until he gets tired.

Gabrielle bulked up out on open water, but it's still barely a tropical storm. Forecasters say the strongest winds and rainfall are yet to come for the state.

Gabrielle is expected to take a sharp turn and reach Nags Head around sunset before heading back out into the Atlantic.
