Alleged Scam Artist Arrested

Updated: Thu 10:01 AM, Aug 26, 2004

A Houston man accused of posing as a Bryan coach is behind bars after police say he tried to scam a local business.

Thirty-five-year-old Walter Forrest Ross is charged with theft by deception. Ross has two prior convictions and is in the Brazos County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Police say Ross tried to sell advertising space to the owner of Mi Cocina in Bryan for the Bryan High Booster Club. The owner became suspicious and called police. When Ross came back to pick up his payment, police were waiting for him.

Authorities believe two other people may be involved in the scam. If you've been contacted by someone claiming to represent the Bryan Booster Club, call police at 209-5301.
