EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Police say a Catholic priest from Uganda has been arrested in El Paso, accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman.

The Reverend Philip Taban, who is a visiting priest from Arua, Uganda, was arrested this week on two counts of sexual assault.

Officer Christopher Mears says Taban was accused of twice sexually assaulting the woman, who had sought spiritual counseling.

The Reverend John Stowe says Taban had been working with the Mother Cabrini parish since June 29th. But his permission to serve as a priest in the diocese was suspended on September 7th after the abuse allegations were reported.

Stowe says El Paso church officials are not aware of any previous allegations against Taban.
