Statewide democratic candidates for the 2008 elections will gather at Briarcrest Country Club on Sunday at 7 p.m. for a meet and greet reception and the second Jefferson-Jackson Day Banquet.
The Democratic candidates who will attend this event are San Antonio attorney Mikal Watts and Texas Representative Rick Noriega of Houston, both candidates for U.S. Senate; Galveston County district court judge Susan Criss, candidate for Texas Supreme Court; and Dale Henry, former Mills County commissioner, candidate for Railroad Commission.
A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. At this time, the public will have the chance to meet and talk with the four democratic candidates. Following the reception, there will be the banquet at 7 p.m.
The keynote speaker for the banquet is editorial cartoonist Ben Sargent. Sargent, who works for the Austin American-Statesman will speak on editorial cartooning in the Texas political arena.
The event is intended to give the public a chance to meet and gather together with four of the statewide democratic candidates before they face off in the primary on March 4th.
The reception is $25 to attend and the banquet is $50. To purchase a ticket and for more information, call 779-5600.
All proceeds will go into the democratic candidates fund.
